"Now it's my turn"

A child's cancer puts a lasting strain on the entire family. Parents automatically focus on the sick child. Unintentionally, the siblings are taken out of the parents' field of vision. They are unsettled. They worry about the sick sister or brother, but then they are usually left to their own devices with their feelings and questions, because they sense the parents' great concern and avoid addressing their own fears.

From 2014 to 2020, the sibling work was organized together with the Outpatient Children's and Youth Hospice Halle. Currently, the association organizes the sibling work independently. This work focuses on siblings of seriously ill children. In the monthly sibling meeting, the children get exactly the attention that they have just lost a little. On small, eventful excursions as well as in soothing, clarifying discussions, they experience that the other siblings have similar questions, worries or problems. In this community they are not alone. In the group, they deal with their issues and gain new perspectives, learning ways to deal well with difficult situations.

Sibling camps are organized once or twice a year. For one week, the children can experience nature in the mountains, by the sea or at a lake; fun, joy and exercise provide variety. They experience a sense of community and friendships develop.
